Ta-Da! The Feel-Good To-Do List You Didn’t Know You Needed

Ta-Da! The Feel-Good To-Do List You Didn’t Know You Needed
You know that feeling when you look at your to-do list at the end of the day and all you see are the things you didn’t do? Yeah, me too.
I love a good list. I love ticking things off. I love the structure. But I don’t love the way to-do lists can make me feel like I’m constantly chasing the next thing, never quite done.
So, I started an extra list. Not a replacement, not a new system to master, just a simple feel-good add-on.
I call it my Ta-Da! List, and it’s ridiculously easy:
At the end of the day (or whenever I remember), I jot down all the things I did; big, small, whatever.
It’s like giving yourself credit for living instead of just doing. And let me tell you, it feels so much better.
How My Ta-Da! List Works
· I Notice What I Actually Did
· I grab my notebook (or my phone, or the back of an envelope (whatever’s nearest) and list all the things I did. Work, errands, self-care, even silly little things like “finally put away that laundry pile.”
· If I can tick something off, I do. Because ticking things off feels amazing!
· I End the Day Feeling Proud, Not Guilty
· To-do lists focus on what’s left to do. This one focuses on what’s already done. No guilt, no pressure. Just a little moment to appreciate my own efforts.
· I Eat More Mindfully (Without the Stress); Instead of planning my meals, I just note down what I ate. No pressure, no overthinking, just a gentle way to notice patterns and be a bit more mindful about how I’m fuelling myself.
How You Can Start (Without Overcomplicating It)
· Write It Down Somewhere
Sure, a dedicated notebook is nice, but if you can’t find it, just grab whatever’s handy. The point is to do it, not to do it perfectly. (Important note: If you need a new notebook or several, here’s your permission!)
· Do It When It Feels Right
Evening is great, but if you forget and remember while brushing your teeth? That’s fine. A voice-note to yourself on the loo? Yeah! Fancy writing it in your phone while watching Netflix? Also fine. No rules, just vibes.
· Include Everything You Can Think Of (But Forget the Mistakes)
Finished a big work project? Write it down. Took five minutes to stretch? That counts. Painted, journaled, or doodled something just for fun? Absolutely list it. Managed to rest when you needed to? That’s huge.
We’re celebrating what you did, not dwelling on what you didn’t.
· Add Ticks for Extra Satisfaction
There’s something magical about ticking things off, even when you’ve already done them. Trust me!
· Take a Second to Feel Good About It
Before you move on, pause for a moment. Smile. Acknowledge that you showed up for yourself today.
Why This Works (Even If You’re a To-Do List Lover)
· Less Stress – Because you’re not staring at what you haven’t done.
· More Motivation – Seeing your wins in black and white feels good.
· More Mindfulness – You naturally start noticing the good stuff.
· Better Balance – Planning is useful, but appreciating right now is important too.
Will I Stop Using Regular To-Do Lists?
Nope! I still love them, and the notebooks, apps and spreadsheets in which they live. But the Ta-Da! List just makes everything feel better. It’s a simple, no-pressure way to actually notice all the things I’m doing instead of constantly focusing on what’s next.
If you’ve ever felt like your to-do list runs your life, try this. It might just change the way you see your day (and yourself).
Would you give this a go? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear what you think!
